The Internet contains an abundance of sites that are dedicated to Christian living. While some of these are commercial sites, there are many others that have been developed by individuals or organizations strictly for the glory of God without regard to any financial gain. On these sites you will find programs that you can use online or download for use on your computer when you are not connected to the Internet. Please browse through the areas of interest to you in the following list and let us know of any other sites that you have found useful in your Christian growth.

Bible Study

  • Bible Gateway - This site is a service of the Gospel Communications Network. You can search for specific verses or read any part of the Bible in sixteen different versions. There are also study tools, Bible commentaries and an audio Bible search tool.

  • Audio Bible - Listen to any part of the Bible as read by Alexander Scourby. The Real Audio plugin is required which can be downloaded through this site.

  • Bible Study Tools - This site, which originates from Crosswalk.com, is designed to facilitate in-depth study and exploration of God's Word. There are over two dozen versions of the Bible that can be searched for verses. In addition, there are many study aids such as commentaries, concordances, dictionaries, lexicons and church histories. You can also subscribe to as many as seven different Crosswalk newsletters for free.

  • Bible Downloads - There are many versions of the Bible that can be downloaded from this site. Start by clicking on "e-Sword v 7.0.5 application installation" to download the King James Version w/ Strong's numbers and Strong's dictionary. It is a rather large file, so it may take a long time to download depending upon your internet connection. After the download completes, click on "Bibles" in the menu (the green boxes) to access all of the Bibles. You might also try typing "Download Bible" into a search engine such as Google to find even more sites from which the Bible can be downloaded.

Internet Tools

  • Crosswalk.com - This is a very large site devoted to Christian living. It is based upon four primary content areas - Faith, Family, Fun and Community. These are subdivided into areas of significance to many Christians such as Bible study, devotionals, marriage, parenting, music, etc. Several of the other links on this page actually originate from Crosswalk.com.

  • Christian Connections - This is a useful site for all ages. It contains a very large listing of many different kinds of Christian resources on the Internet including Christian newsletters, magazines and online books.

Lutheran Internet Sites

  • Lutheran Hour Ministries Online - You will find many useful and interesting features on this site which is the home of The Lutheran Hour. One of the best services offered here is the free subscription service which sends material via email to you periodically. You can sign up for daily devotions, The Lutheran Hour sermon (delivered following each weekend broadcast) and the monthy newsletter "Ministry Highlights Online." Other links below on this page for Topical Messages and The Puzzle Club originate from The Lutheran Hour site.

  • Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod - This is the home page for The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod where you will find the latest church news, a history of the Synod, our beliefs and practices, various resources such as publications and a directory of LCMS churches. The directory includes a Lutheran church and school locator which is helpful when traveling or when a family needs to find a new congretation because they are relocating to a different area.

  • Iowa District West - This site maintained by our district office offers many services as well as the latest news. Some of the topics include a congregation search, gift planning, missions, stewardship and youth activities. You can also access the News of the Day as well as download the latest edition of the Iowa District West magazine, The Harvest. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view these online publications, which can also be downloaded from this site.

  • Lutheran Family Service of Iowa - The help provided by the Lutheran Family Service of Iowa (LFS) to individuals, couples, families and children is detailed on this site. The services provided for Iowans range from Christ-centered counseling services to adoption services to family educational opportunities.

  • Lutherans for Life - As stated on its web site, the mission of this organization is to witness to the sanctity of human life through education based on the Word of God. Learn more about its vision and philosophy at this site.

  • LCMS World Relief - This site contains all the information about LCMS World Relief. As described in more detail on the Missions page, it is the disaster relief and long-term self-help arm of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

  • Lutheran Church Extension Fund - This is the internet home of the LCEF, which is a Missouri Synod organization that offers Lutherans the opportunity to invest their money by helping build churches and schools. Learn about the investment possibilities at this site.

  • Lutheran Women's Missionary League - The official web site of the LWML contains the latest news concerning LWML, Bible study scripts, an online order form for LWML resources and other features.

  • The LCMS Foundation - This site explains the purpose of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod Foundation and offers help on topics such as gift planning services and trust & investment services.

  • Camp Okoboji - Camp Okoboji is the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Camp located on a 29-acre wooded peninsula on West Lake Okoboji in Milford, Iowa. You can learn about all the activities that are planned at Camp Okoboji at this site.

  • Orphan Grain Train - This project, which Iowa District West encourages member congregations to support, gathers and distributes food, clothing, medical supplies and religious materials to regions where they are needed. Learn how you can help at this site.

  • Thrivent Financial for Lutherans - There is information at this site about the products offered by Thrivent as well as the services they provide to Lutheran individuals, families and congregations. You can also order free publications and other material at this site.

Devotional Material

  • Portals of Prayer - You can read the familiar daily devotions at this site maintained by Concordia Publishing House. Each devotion contains a Bible reading, meditation and prayer just as in the paper version.

  • Topical Messages - From the Lutheran Hour Ministries comes a set of articles on Family & Relationships, Life Issues and Spiritual Matters. There are between seven and ten topics within each of these three categories.

Christian Activities

  • JCPlayZone - The Lutheran Hour Ministries provides the JCPlayZone which contains many activities including Games & Puzzles, Practical Parenting, several Read-Along Stories and Puzzle Club Projects.

  • Old Lutheran - This fun web site calls itself the "Center for Lutheran Pride! (but not too proud)." It has a wide variety of activities including humor, recipes, fun stuff (games) and the Old Lutheran Gift Shop. You are bound to find many things of interest here. Be sure to bookmark this site and return often.
