Pastors's Message Dependable News      What is the most dependable news you can hear this time of year? Here are some possible options: “We’re never gonna get in the fields/gardens/lawns with this much rain!” “We sure could use some rain; the ground seems dry this spring.” “I think the kids are ready for school to let out.” "I don’t think school is ever gonna be over with!” “I have so much yard work to do, I don’t think I’ll ever get to the garden.” “I have so much garden work to do, I think I’ll just skip the yard work this year.” “I’m so glad that spring is here. I just needed the change of season.”      Did you hear yourself in one of those statements? I can hear myself in a couple. Most of the thoughts above are opinions. Opinions can change as often as the wind does in Iowa. We read opinions in the editorial pages, we listen to opinions on the radio, we watch and hear opinions on the news shows and the late night talk shows. Some of these opinions are on harmless matters, but some are expressed in harmful directions. It does matter who we listen to, since we are often swayed by the constant repetition of ideas.      There is one fact that you will hear around church this April. No, it isn’t about what hymnal we will use or even about how much of a building program we will pursue. Those are worthy topics for our attention, but the best possible news is kinda old. It’s been around for quite awhile, even over some centuries. It was expressed first by some angels, which makes it a most unusual fact. Can you guess what it is yet? No? well here it is.      But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay. 7Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead.” Matthew 28:6-7      I know you can read this whenever you want to, but I believe it is the best news for our lives, our world, our relationships, and for our personal needs. Jesus lives, and not even the worst news can defeat us forever! Get into this news, listen to it, repeat it to yourself when you need encouragement, share it with someone else who needs some encouragement.
