Whatever you do...giving thanks to God? Again!? You gotta do that again!? You did what? You hurt your ______!? When did you fall? Are you balance-challenged or just clumsy? Maybe youve had that thought or maybe not. Its been a nasty winter as far as dealing with ice and slick conditions. Weve had too many ice casualties among our members. Broken bones, bruised bodies, long recoveries, surgeries already done and coming up, all of these are experiences of our family in Christ. If you didnt fall or suffer injury, thank God for that. If you did fall or suffer injury, I hope you too are able to thank God. That last idea may sound ridiculous, but lets take a look at a verse from His Word. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:17) whatever you do... giving thanks to God? This sounds a bit far-fetched for someone who has to endure a long time of recovery or a broken bone or a painful injury. Yet our Lord says we can be thankful for any situation. Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) Oh man, theres the difficult word from God for us to accept: Give thanks in all circumstances. Are You kidding, God? Give thanks for pain, for ice, for broken bones, for damaged body parts that have to be fixed, for a long time of recovery? Give thanks!? Well, Lord, I do believe in Your love for me, for all of us. Thats what leads me along in the faith Youve given me. I believe in Your forgiveness, Your love that conquers death & hell for me. So like the man whose child was ill, help me to pray, Lord I believe; help me overcome my unbelief. (Mark 9:24) Again, I hope you are able to thank God in all circumstances, even when life looks troubled beyond repair. Jesus rose from the dead. If He can do that, He can certainly help us with a power that is out of this world.
