Pastors's Message

The Lord Knows the Plans He Has for You

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

There are times and situations in life where we just don’t know what to expect. I had one of those times last February when the cardiologist told me that the aortic valve was leaking and some tests were necessary. By now most of you know about this situation. I had been told last year after the first heart valve surgery that the valve would last at least 20 years. So I made my plans to get back to normal activity levels and work efforts. I did not plan to have any more heart surgery for a long time. So much for my plans, eh? At first I was angry and depressed. I would not be surprised if you told me that my anger and depression showed in the way I acted. I apologize if I have treated anyone in an unkind manner. I know that bad moods can affect the way we treat each other. Disappointment, anger, sadness, frustration all have run through me. Having a leaky valve was not supposed to happen again!

But here it is. My plans have changed. I still am not keen about having more heart surgery, but I do trust that God has guided me to the best possible surgical situation. My plans may have changed, but God’s plans for me still include "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” However it all works out, I know that God has good plans for me. Jesus has more plans for me and you than we can imagine. Even better yet, these plans are all going to work out for our good!

I am thankful to God for my family who love and care for me. I thank the Lord for my church family that has expressed care for me and my family. I thank God for Pastor Lohman, for Brad our DCE, for the Board of Elders and Church Council who are so supportive and helpful as we plan for my medical leave.

I thank God for your patience and prayers as I again take a break from serving as your pastor. If you had told me 6 years ago that I would experience so much serious surgery, I doubt if I would have believed it.

Our plans change, don’t they? I hope to be back in action soon, probably in August. I will have to wait and see. But one thing I do know - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

In Christ,
