Repent and Believe "The time has come," He said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" (Mark 1:15) This is one of the first speeches which Jesus made in His public ministry. Repent is one of the key words in this verse. The basic idea of repenting is changing from evil to good. The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1. Lent is a season of the church calendar focused on the greatest work of Jesus on the cross. Repent is a Lenten word, a word that describes our response to what Jesus has done for us.
To be honest about it, if you answered no to any of these questions, you are in trouble. You need to repent, to change what you believe and how you live. If you answered yes to these questions, then you have the privilege of Gods forgiveness and the responsibility to live the penitential life. And what is the penitential life all about? Come to worship on Wednesday nights or next weekend and you will learn about this life.
