Pastors's Message

Precious Treasure

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Recently a jewelry store owner in Georgia found that his small dog ate some very expensive treats. The dog’s official duty was to greet customers as they came into the store. The store owner noticed that a small bag of diamonds worth about $10,000 was missing. The owner looked everywhere, eliminating various possibilities. He then took his dog to the vet for an x-ray and sure enough, the dog had precious cargo in its stomach. Let’s just say the diamonds were recovered the next day.

So, do you think the dog had any appreciation for how expensive his dinner was? Most likely not. Sometimes I am like the dog; I don’t appreciate the precious gifts God has provided for me.

My wife, my family, my job, my salvation and faith in Jesus – the list could go on. How about you? It’s so easy to just float along, enjoying life, enjoying the blessings without realizing what a precious treasure we have been given. When Jesus took our sins upon Himself at the cross and justified us, we were given the precious treasure of forgiveness. When you hear me tell you that your sins are forgiven, are they just familiar words or are they precious treasure to you?

In October we will again recall the Reformation of the church. The precious treasure we celebrate is the fact that we are justified through all that Jesus did for us at the cross and empty tomb. I pray that you will hear God’s message for you as the most precious treasure that you have. Then take time to thank God for all the blessings you are enjoying.
