Pastors's Message

Words

There are certain words that may cause negative responses from many of us. Here is a short list of such words.

  • study

  • class
  • learn
  • memorize
  • test
  • school

See how you respond to such words – is it negative or positive? We can choose our response to these words. We can enjoy the learning process or we can regard it as a pain, an inconvenience.

Let’s try the same short test with some other words.

  • catechism

  • Sunday School
  • worship
  • pray
  • forgive
  • commune
  • live
  • Jesus

What is your response to these words? Again we can respond either negative or positive. We cannot choose to be neutral towards Jesus & His church. We are born enemies of God & His way of life. He changes us by the power of His name in baptism or by the power of the Gospel about Jesus. Once we have become His people by being born again or converted, God works with us, in us to produce a holy life.

Let’s take this to a different level. If you have children at home, they will learn how to respond to God’s church from your example as their parent. If Mom or Dad value their relationship, their connection to Jesus, it is more likely that the children will also value their connection with Jesus. If Mom or Dad don’t worship-commune-pray-love-forgive-desire to learn more about Jesus, it is more likely that the children will also care little about these spiritual matters.

The basic question is: do we want our children to enjoy the best life here & now, and also enjoy heaven after this life? If we say yes, then we must train them to know and love Jesus, to know & love His word, and to enjoy His sacraments. (Proverbs 22:6) Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. This is the command of our Lord. To disobey Him is to head down the path to a Godless life and hell afterwards. I can’t sugarcoat this fact. Our children’s salvation is in our hands to a great degree. How much do we love them? I hope & pray you love your family enough to care about their spiritual health.

In Christ,
