For now, outdated Portals of Prayer are not being collected. Thanks to those who shared in the past.
College Students and Parents: Before you leave for college be sure to give Brad your email address and your Facebook page. We want to stay in touch.
There will be no Elders meeting on Monday, July 26. Next meeting will be Monday, August 23 at 7:00 pm.
There will be no Bible Study on Sundays in the month of August. We will see you September 12.
Missionary Corner: Pray for the work of Lutheran Campus Ministry, which empowers Lutheran ministers and the broader church to be effective witnesses of Christ in the academic community.
THE DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM IS DOWN for a couple of weeks! If you need access to the church after 5:00 pm, please make arrangements.
Stewardship Corner: Colossians 2:6-15: We became Gods stewards when the Holy Spirit called us to be Gods children through the washing of Holy Baptism and the word of salvation in Christ Jesus. In Christ, God made us alive and gives us the power to use all that we are and have (time, life, relationships, skills and money) for His purposes. There is no greater calling in life than being a child of God in thoughts, words and actions.
"The Changeless Christ for a Changing World" We present a classic Lutheran Hour message from the program's founder and first Speaker, Dr. Walter A. Maier. This message was originally broadcast the day after Christmas, 1937. Hear about it on the Lutheran Hour KJYL (100.7) at 6:00 pm Sunday, KTLB (105.9 FM) at 8:00 am Sunday, KHBT (97.7 FM) at 12:00 pm Sunday or WHO (1040) at 7:30 am Sunday. Log on to www.lhm.org for other stations and details. Hear Woman-to-Woman on Saturdays over Boone station (1260 AM) at 1:30 pm. Life Notes airs from 9:05-9:10 am Sunday on KWMT (540 AM).

Opportunities for next fall: We will need a Crosstown teacher for the last three weeks of the months. Can you help out one or more Wednesday nights a month? It is approximately 40 minutes to an hour of your time per week. Your meal is included. We are still in need of a couple of readers for Crosstown. If you can spare one Wednesday night a month, we would appreciate your help. Please see Brad if you can help out.
Sixth Grade catechism teacher or teachers are needed. To find out how you can help, talk to Pastor or Brad.
Building Healthy Families: One characteristic of a strong, healthy family is that they anticipate and plan for change. They are flexible, and expect that they will have to make adjustments as children grow and family life changes. For example, a young boy grows to be a young teen who is now more independent and capable, and would benefit from being given more freedom, responsibility and respect within the family. In what ways is your family changing? Are you recognizing and adapting to these changes in a healthy way? Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 573-3138
LWML has designated the last weekend of each month as MITES weekend, based on the biblical story of the widows mite (Luke 21:1-4). LWML promotes giving MITES to fund mission projects. At the back of the church is a mite box that explains a mission project that delegates to either the district or national convention have voted to support to further Gods kingdom. Seventy-five percent of the MITES collection stays with the district for our mission projects and twenty-five percent is sent to national projects. Information on the mite box this month explains the mission project of Concordia Seminary, St Louis Food Bank Relocation - $50,000.
Dorcas Circle - LWML Lutheran World Relief collections for School Kits. Needed are: blunt scissors, rulers 12/30 cm rulers with inches and centimeters, pencil sharpeners, notebooks (8.5 X11, 150-200 sheets), crayons (8, 16 or 24 count). Due to prior year collections the above items are the only things needed.
Please note that the back pews are reserved for people with small children.
Sioux City Date Night and Marriage Retreat will be on Sept. 17 and 18. Sponsored by Calvary and St. Paul Lutheran Churches of Sioux City, Lutheran Family Services of Iowa, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Siouxland Lutherans in Ministry and Mission. See the poster in the hall for more information. Please join us.
Dates are still open for mowing. Please see the signup sheet on the table in the Overflow room to help maintain the yards this year.
Sign up to sponsor Life Notes. See the bulletin board in the Church Overflow room. Cost is $30. Tune in on Sundays on KWMT radio 540 AM around 9:05 am to hear the message for yourself.
Little Lambs Preschool participates in the Hy-Vee SHOPnSHARE PROGRAM. We average $20 - 30 per month that goes directly to the Preschool. Just take your card with you when you shop Hy-Vee and have the clerk sign it. When its full, turn it in to Hy-Vee. Its that simple. Please pick your card up on the guest stand in the back of the church.
Pennies for Life: In gratitude to God, and as a way of helping the ministry of Lutherans For Life, please give a penny in gratitude to God for each year of your life. Its easy - just drop your pennies of gratitude into the Pennies For Life box located on the table in the Overflow Room. When its full, a check for the total amount will be sent to Lutherans For Life of Iowa to help with educational projects and outreach. Your pennies will help us tell others that life is a precious gift from God.

Keep
up with events at Good Shepherd. |
Do you use bill pay to pay your bills? If you do and wish to submit your offering to Good Shepherd via bill pay, we have set up an account with the Merchant Account Retrieval System which allows your payments to be submitted electronically if your bank is a participant. Just use your envelope number for the account number. They will e-mail and let us know who the donation is from so that you are credited for that amount.
Endowment Fund -A gift that keeps giving. The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Endowment Fund is a permanent fund that allows our Church to expand its ministry in many different areas. Only the interest and growth from the principal is spent. No part of the Endowment Fund can be used for regular operating expenses of the Church. By making a gift to the Endowment Fund it allows us to carry on the work of the Lord after we are gone. Any type of gift will be accepted. Gifts may be made in memory of friends, relatives and loved one. In addition, a gift to the Endowment Fund is an excellent way to acknowledge a birthday, anniversary or other special event. Some people remember the Endowment Fund each year on their birthday and give $1 or $2 for each year of their life. This is an excellent way to help the Endowment grow. Examples of ways that the interest from this fund will be used are for education, missions, evangelism, scholarships, family counseling, youth programs, church music, building fund and new technology. Any contribution or help you can give the Endowment Fund will be greatly appreciated. - The Endowment Fund Committee
Please note that your mail box is ABOVE the number, not below it, when you pick up your mail.
Anyone who wants to leave a gift to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Endowment Fund can make arrangements to have a free Last Will and Testament done by a local attorney. Simply call Karen at the Church Office at 573-3174 and she will make the arrangements. Our Endowment Fund helps further the ministry of Jesus Christ in two important ways: (1) The majority of the principal is invested with the Lutheran Church Extension Fund which means the money is used to help expand and build new churches across the country, and (2) the interest earned on the fund can be used for a broad variety of ways to help our Church such as for scholarships, technical improvements, music department and missions. This fund is perpetual which means gifts to this fund keep on working long after we are gone.
