Our Beliefs As a member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Good Shepherd considers the Bible to be the inspired Word of God. (II Peter 1:21 Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost). God tells us in the Holy Scriptures that man is a sinner, both by nature and by deed. No one can contribute toward saving himself based on his own "good" works. Our only hope for eternal salvation is Jesus Christ, whom we believe is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. (Rom. 3:23 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God),   (Eph. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God - not because of works, lest any man should boast), (John 3:16, 17 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent His Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him). Christ put His Church in the world so that everyone might have eternal life in heaven by turning from their sins and trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal salvation. (I Timothy 2:4 God will have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.) Therefore the obligation of our Church is to: proclaim the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. teach the Holy Word of God. provide Christian relationships for people. provide the opportunity to worship the triune God. administer the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper. (Rom. 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.) (Matt. 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.) (I Cor. 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.)
